2/26/2024 0 Comments Cadillac crossover conceptWith even the Escalade coming in a hybrid version, Cadillac is making a strong play against its Japanese (i.e., Lexus) competitors. The other note of significance is how closely GM is tying its luxury brand to social responsibility. Whether it winds up with an E-Flex drivetrain right off the bat is debatable, and unlikely, but we'd be surprised if a production version of this car doesn't show up sometime relatively soon. Today at the Detroit Auto Show, GM unveiled another version of the platform, and quite possibly the best one yet: The Cadillac Provoq. Why it Matters The Provoq is one of the most production-ready concepts we've seen, and with all the rumors of a BRX small crossover, we're guessing that this is a close preview of that vehicle. This may be revealed in short order, however, as the electric Cadillac crossover is expected to debut during the 2023 calendar year as a 2024 model year vehicle. It’s currently unclear what nameplate this vehicle will wear, but the luxury marque has filed to trademark Lumistiq, Ascendiq, Vistiq, and Optiq for use on future electric models. This model may also incorporate rear-wheel steering for increased maneuverability, as evidenced by a different set of spy shots. Ultium batteries and Ultium Drive motors will deliver the power. The forthcoming electric Cadillac crossover will ride on a longer variant of the BEV3 architecture that underpins the Lyriq. However, the curved screen panel doesn’t look like it’s wide enough to incorporate both the infotainment cluster as well as the center infotainment screen, though the finer details are difficult to make out here. While the image isn’t entirely clear, the interior appears to feature a cockpit configuration similar to that of the Lyriq. A tow hitch receiver also seems to be visible below the rear bumper cover.Īlso of note are chrome window surrounds and the flush-mounted door handles, similar to those of the Lyriq. A short spoiler hangs over the rear glass, while also integrating a center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL). The rear end seems to feature a set of vertical tail lamps with elements tracing the side of the vehicle’s D-pillars. Additionally, we can see a sleek shark-fin antenna affixed to the roof, just ahead of the liftgate. The first pane appears to be capable of opening, while the other two are likely fixed in place. However, this prototype clearly has a longer dash-to-axle ratio than the XT6, enabling a more cab-rearward configuration.Īnother angle reveals the electric Cadillac crossover’s glass roof, which sports a three-pane layout. The most readily discernable factor is the size of this electric Cadillac crossover, which appears to have a similar exterior footprint as the current Cadillac XT6. Unfortunately, the zebra-like pattern on this particular vehicle’s camo make it difficult to discern the lines. And now, we caught the upcoming EV testing once again, revealing more key details about its interior and exterior design. Shortly thereafter, our spies caught the model undergoing testing. The upcoming model is far enough along in the development process to warrant prototype testing, as Cadillac Society was first to report back in February. An electric Cadillac crossover that will slot above the Lyriq is on the way.
